LED Traffic Light Conversion Project
The City received a $25,000 reimbursement cheque from Northlands Utility for power saved, as the result of the City’s LED (light emitting diode) traffic light conversion project completed in 2008. Prior to the installation of the LED lights at each of the 18 intersections across the community, the City was spending approximately $67,000 annually on electricity to operate the lights. The LED lights run on 10% of the power required to operate the old incandescent bulbs, which is anticipated to save the City $60,000 annually. The City will use the reimbursement money to invest in further energy efficient measures within its operation as a part of the Community Energy Plan.
