Public Transit Funding Secured For Multipurpose Highway Crossing
CITY SECURES PUBLIC TRANSIT FUNDING
May, 2008 - Yellowknife: The City of Yellowknife has received confirmation from the Government of the Northwest Territories that it will receive funding to a maximum of $433,872 to be used towards an eligible project utilizing Public Transit Funds. The funding will be used to cover the cost of constructing a multi-purpose highway crossing along Highway #4 linking the Frame Lake Trail system with the Niven Lake Trail system.
This project will create a viable alternative for residents of the Niven Lake Subdivision to access the downtown core, schools, hospital and City facilities. The crossing will provide a safe corridor for residents to use for walking or cycling, rather than having to rely on their own personal vehicles for transportation. The City hopes that this new "active" route will significantly reduce the number of vehicular trips going to and from the Niven Lake Subdivision.
For more information, please contact the City at 920-5653.
