Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee
The Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee was established by City Council on August 23, 2004. The Committee consists of seven members representing the community. Of the seven members, one is a member of City Council, one is a representative of Ecology North, one is a representative of the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce, one is a representative from a large commercial business, and two are representatives from the public at large. The Mayor also sits as an ex-officio voting member of the Committee.
The purpose of establishing the Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee is to assist the City of Yellowknife in an advisory
The scope of the Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee will be related to issues on waste reduction, reuse and recycling. One initiative for the Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee will be to recommend a policy on recycling that considers maximizing recycling while taking into account costs. This will likely involve revisions to the Solid Waste Levy By-law.
Meetings:Regular meetings of the Committee shall be held during the year with the time and place to be determined by the Chairperson in consultation with Committee Members. It is anticipated that the meetings will be held on the last Council Monday of each month* at City Hall. For more information, please contact 920-5693.
