RECREATIONAL SWIMMING ADMISSION STANDARDS

DID YOU KNOW? Our Lifeguards complete more than 120 hours of aquatic training to achieve lifeguard status. This training includes: Standard First Aid; CPR C; Automated External Defibrillation and the Lifesaving Society's National Lifeguard Service Award.
RECREATIONAL SWIMMING ADMISSION STANDARDS
Ruth Inch Memorial Pool (RIMP) requires that all children 6 years of age and under, regardless of their swimming ability, wear a wristband (provided by the pool) to help keep children within arm's reach of an actively supervising adult. Active supervision is defined as being able to render immediate assistance (a few seconds away from the child) and in swimming attire. Children in this age range must be with their adult supervisor at all times so are allowed in the opposite gender changeroom.
Children 7 years of age and older, who are unable to pass the facility swim test, must wear a lifejacket in the deep end of the pool at all times. Children 7 years of age and older, who are swimmers, and are able to demonstrate comfort in the water as well as pass the facility swim test, will be able to swim in the deep end of the pool without a lifejacket. Children in this age range must use gender specific changerooms or access the large washroom in the lobby.
Swimmers of all ages must wear proper swimming attire which consists of clothing worn for swimming only. No street clothes or undergarments are allowed in the pool. Children who are not toilet-trained must wear swimmer pull-ups (ie- L'il Swimmers, Gabbies). Suitable products may be purchased at the admission desk. Diapers - disposable or cloth- are not permitted as pool foulings can lead to pool closures and program delays for everyone.
The RIMP FACILITY SWIM TEST consists of a minimum of 2 widths of the pool doing a face in, front swim. A lifeguard may ask a patron to demonstrate the ability to pass this swim test at any time or may ask patrons to use a lifejacket.
Patrons with SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITIONS, especially seizure disorders, must be accompanied by a person knowledgeable of their condition and directly responsible for their supervision. Any patrons with a Medic Alert or known medical conditions should report the condition to the guard on duty. The aide or buddy will be entitiled to swim at no charge.
