Lifesaving programs and Red Cross programs
Bronze Medallion
The Bronze Medallion Award teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education - judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defence and release method in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim. Prerequisites - Ability to swim a few strokes with good endurance for a distance of 500 meters and 13 years of age OR Bronze Star Award.

Bronze Cross and CPR C
Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard certification. Prerequisite - Bronze Medallion Award.

National Lifeguard Service
National Lifeguard Service is currently the only nationally recognized lifeguard training program in Canada. It is recognized as legal certification for lifeguarding throughout the country and, indeed, elsewhere in the world. The NLS award builds on the fundamental skills, knowledge and values taught in the lifesaving awards (Bronze levels). The purpose of the program is to develop the practical skills and knowledge required by lifeguards. Prerequisites - Bronze Cross, CPR 'C' and 16 years of age.
A valid Standard and CPR C certificate must be shown on the first day of class.
