Summer Reading Program

Every summer kids can improve their reading skills and reduce summer learning loss while having fun.
Each year, Yellowknife Public Library staff develop a wide range of exciting activities around a different
theme to help kids enjoy reading. This year’s theme is Imagine!
This theme will familiarize young readers with literature of the fantastic. Readers will be charmed by
fantasy stories and novels and they will be enthralled by tales of wonder. They will discover the Gothic and steampunk worlds where unusual creatures and strange machines can be found in mysterious locales.
Kids, 12 and under, who register with the library for the Summer Reading Club will receive a poster, stickers and an activity book all free as a part of their reading kit. They can also participate in our seven week programs (not mandatory!).

Thursdays, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. July 5 - August 16 (3 - 5 yrs)
Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. July 3 – August 15 (6 - 9 yrs)
Fridays, 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. July 4 – August 14 (9 - 12 yrs)

The sessions are open to families and daycares and day camps. Be sure not to miss the Summer Reading Club. It will be wonderful, fantastical, and phantasmagorical! Registration begins June 11.

T.A.I.L.S. Program (6-12 yrs)

Your child doesn’t like to read?! Here is a great program for reluctant readers.
Children between the ages of 6-12, who love dogs and want to practice reading, can book 20 minutes with a specially trained dog.

Toddler Time - Drop In (18-36 months)

Let your toddler explore the world through stories, rhymes, finger plays and songs that reinforce language development and learning. This lively and interactive program offers special one-on-one time for children and their caregivers. Admission is free!

Story Time - Drop In (3-5 years)

Story Time is a fun way to introduce your child to the joys of books and learning. Join us for stories, fun, and crafts in the Library Meeting Room. We ask that a parent or caregiver attend with the child. Please join us for any or all of the sessions that you are able to make. Admission is free.
