The Yellowknife Public Library is part of the NWT Public Library Services which, under the direction of the Territorial Librarian, provides leadership in coordinating public library services throughout the Northwest Territories.

The Yellowknife Public Library partners with various community organizations, local businesses, and national organizations to provide collections and programs to Yellowknife residents.

Each kit contains picture and board books as well as multimedia and craft materials.
These free resources are available on thirty day loan.

Northern Collection

This collection contains rare, historical, and current material on Yellowknife and the Northwest Territories. This collection is for in-library use only and is a great resource for research. We do not loan this material for interlibrary loan requests. Most Government documents are not held in this collection and can be found at the Government Legislative Library . All titles in our Northern collection can be found in our online catalogue.

Online Catalogue

Our catalogue can be used from home as well as in the library. It includes the collections of all the public libraries in the Northwest Territories, as well as college, government, and research libraries.

My Account

Through the online catalogue, you can access My Account which allows you to check what items you have checked out, renew them, and request items.

Requests

If you don't find what you are looking for in the catalogue or on the library shelves, please fill out a form suggesting a purchase or requesting an Interlibrary Loan .

Computers

We have 8 public access stations. Your library card gives you access to 1 hour of Internet use per day. If you do not have a library card you can use the 15 Minute Express computer twice per day. The computers connect to a black and white printer which prints for $0.10 a page.

Wireless

If you present your library card or photo ID at the Circulation desk, you will get access to 1 hours of free wireless access. The network is called YPLNet and a username and password acquired from the Circulation Desk is required.

Photocopier

The Library has a black and white photocopier. Copies are $0.20 per page.

Microfilm Reader and Printer

We have local newspapers on microfilm dating back to 1945.

Meeting Room

Our meeting room’s capacity is 70. Rental of the room includes tables and chairs.

The room can be used free of charge by non-profit community groups for meetings or events. The Yellowknife Public Library reserves the right to refuse or cancel bookings based on availability and scheduling of library programs and events.

Writers Room

The Yellowknife Public Library is pleased to be able to offer its residents and visiting authors and illustrators a quiet and private room in which to work. Our Writers' Room is equipped with two desks and chairs, lamps and a bookcase. Please feel welcome to call ahead at 920-5642 to reserve some time in this tranquil environment.

Writer-in-Residence

The Library has a writer-in-residence who is available for mentoring.

Exam Invigilation

The library offers invigilation (proctoring) of both online and handwritten exams during library hours. There is an administration fee per exam written. Please contact the Library at 920-5642 for more information.
