Backyard Composting
Composting can be thought of as the recycling of organic materials. Composting is a natural process that breaks down organic materials such as food scraps and yard trimmings into a dark, earthy, soil-like material called compost. Finished compost helps gardens and lawns grown by adding nutrients and organic matter to the soil.
Did you know that 40% of a Yellowknife household's waste consists of organic materials that can be composted? Backyard composting is a great way to reduce waste and create a valuable soil amendment at home - and it is easy to do!
