Pumphouse and Liftstation Tradesperson
The City of Yellowknife is currently seeking a qualified individual to assume the position of Pumphouse & Liftstation Tradesperson with the Public Works and Engineering Department. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, Water & Sewer, and the Pumphouse Trades Supervisor, the incumbent is required to perform maintenance, repairs and conduct a preventative maintenance program for City facilities. These duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining proper water temperature, pressure, chlorine and fluoride level in the City water lines and providing emergency power and water supply. The incumbent may be required to act as the Trades Supervisor in his/her absence. This position may involve being on standby, shift work and training apprentices.
This position requires training and experience in the operation and maintenance of diesel engines, pumps and other related equipment. A journeyman Certificate is required with preference given to Millwrights, as is A Class 1 Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate or a willingness to obtain this within two years. Grade 12 or GED and a Valid Class 5 NWT Driver’s license are also required. The ability to operate various communications equipment is also necessary. Extensive experience in the building trades is essential, which normally would be acquired through a minimum of three years’ experience.
