Monday and Friday 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 8:00 am - 5:30 pm

The City of Yellowknife implemented a User Pay System January 1, 2006. Residents are allowed up to 3 bags per week for residential pick up. Should a resident be over the 3 bag limit, there are garbage tags available for purchase at $1.00 a tag (no GST). To purchase garbage tags, they can be found at the following locations:
Monday and Friday 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 8:00 am - 5:30 pm
Saturday & Sunday 10:00 am - 5:30 pm
Holidays 8:00 am - 5:30 pm
- City Hall;
- Reddi Mart (Downtown);
- Village Reddi Mart (across from McDonald's);
- Yellowknife Co-op; and
- Solid Waste Facility Gatehouse.
Garbage bags should be placed in some form of garbage can or garbage box to prevent animals from getting access and ripping the bags apart. Under the Solid Waste By-law, garbage can be placed at the curb after 6:00 pm the night before collection, or beofre 7:30 am the morning of collection to ensure that all garbage is picked up. Garbage is collected on STAT holidays through the year, with the only change to the pick up schedule being around Christmas.
Should you have any problems with your garbage collection, please call 920-5653.
For general question or comments, you can contact the City at 669-3404 or 920-5653.
