The City of Yellowknife (the City) is implementing further changes in response to the May 3, 2021, public exposure risks - close contacts update from the Government of the Northwest Territories, Office of the Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO). With multiple exposure locations in Yellowknife, a number of City staff must isolate, and certain City facilities close. The City’s top priorities remain public and staff safety. All essential services will continue.

Effective immediately, the following City facilities are closed to the public:

  • Fieldhouse
  • City Hall

Effective immediately, the following City services will operate with reduced capacity:

  • Yellowknife Public Transit and Yellowknife Accessible Transit services

All other City facilities remain open to those 18 years of age and older wearing a mask or facial covering. Revised schedules may apply, and additional public safety measures are in place at each facility. Detailed, facility-specific information and schedules are available online:

“As Yellowknifers are reacting to the COVID outbreak with resilience and compassion, I want to thank everyone for taking action to be safe,” said Mayor Rebecca Alty. “If we all take the necessary steps, we hope to reduce the number of cases of COVID-19, and all return to good health as quickly as possible.”

“As the situation around COVID-19 in Yellowknife continues to evolve, it is important that the City reacts swiftly to the information provided by the Chief Public Health Officer,” said City Manager, Sheila Bassi-Kellett. “This may cause disruption to our residents as little notice may be provided and I would like to thank Yellowknifers for your continued patience and understanding as we work to keep our community safe.”

Citizens and businesses are encouraged to keep their accounts current by using the City's Online Services, making payments through their banks, mailing or dropping off cheques at the City Hall drop box, or contacting City Hall at 920-5600, CustomerService@yellowknife.ca or our website

As the COVID-19 situation in Yellowknife continues to develop, changes may occur with little notice. For the latest City information on COVID-19, visit our COVID-19 page.
