The City would like to advise residents that bi-weekly, Green Cart (organics) waste collection will resume, effective June 1, 2020 and the City will return to its regular Curbside Cart Program schedule.

“I, like many Yellowknifers, am excited to be resuming our Green Cart, organics waste collection program,” said Mayor, Rebecca Alty. “Thank you for working with us as the City begins to take action as we enter Phase 1 of recovery.”

The last weekly Black Cart collection will take place from May 25 – 29, 2020, and the first resumed Green Cart collection will take place from June 1 – 5, 2020. The schedule will then alternate on a bi-weekly schedule, moving forward. Residents can view their personalized Curbside Cart Collection schedule by entering their address in the “My Schedule” section of the City’s website, at www.yellowknife.ca/garbage. Residents should ensure the correct cart is set out by 7 a.m. on scheduled collection days from June 1, 2020.

The City encourages residents to dispose of any additional household waste at the Solid Waste Facility (SWF), Monday to Friday, from 1 – 4 p.m. For information on simple yet effective waste management practices that will assist residents and the City in tackling the increased volumes of residential waste in Yellowknife, visit www.yellowknife.ca/garbage.

Spring Amnesty will take place at the SWF from May 19 - 22, 2020 from 1–4 p.m. During this time the $10.00 residential tipping fee will be waived. Other tipping fees will still apply. At this time, including during Spring Amnesty, the SWF is open for Public Drop-Off only; Salvaging is not permitted. The City’s top priorities remain public and staff safety, and continued essential service delivery. Salvaging will resume at a time when it is safe to do so.

The City continues to evaluate the situation surrounding COVID-19 in Yellowknife and reminds residents that these measures may change as the situation evolves. The City will inform the public of any changes. To stay up to date with the latest developments, visit www.yellowknife.ca.
