The City of Yellowknife in partnership with Industry Tourism & Investment's North Slave regional office and the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce is teaming up to promote tourism to locals! The 'Be a Tourist in Your Own Town' campaign is a month long event launched this spring to promote tourism to residents from May 13 - June 9, 2017.
The Concept is to encourage Yellowknifers to enjoy our tourism services and products found in the North Slave Region. It is an initiative that is very popular in other jurisdictions such as Victoria, Vancouver and Whitehorse. 2016 was the second year of the promotion.
Vendors that choose to participate will have a tear-away ticket in the 'Be a Tourist in Your Own Town' booklet that specifies what their discount or incentive is. When a person uses the tear-away ticket at a venue the vendor deposits the ticket into a draw box at the venue for inclusion into a grand prize draw at the end of Tourism Week.
Booklets are free and include discounts and free access passes to venues, tourist attractions, restaurants and retailers around the region. Businesses that register will have their discount advertised in the 'Be a Tourist in Your Own Town' booklet. Some tourist attractions may be interested in providing specific programming during the campaign.
We will launch the campaign at the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce Trade Show May 13 - 14, 2017. The booklets will be available for distribution until the end of Tourism Week (June 9, 2017).
