PlaceSpeak is the City of Yellowknife’s official online platform for public engagement. It provides a secure, straightforward way to share your ideas, feedback, and concerns on projects that impact your neighborhood and your city. Check out this video to see how it works!

Key highlights:

  • Connects your feedback to your location, ensuring your input is relevant to where you live
  • Ensures that local voices are heard, and that decisions are based on real, place-based insight
  • Allows for active engagement with City affairs from the comfort of your home
  • Designed to reflect best practices in public engagement, including the IAP2 Spectrum
  • A trusted tool used by many municipalities across Canada and North America for civic participation
Why we use PlaceSpeak
  • Verified, Local Input – When you register, PlaceSpeak confirms your location so the City knows we’re hearing from people who live in or are directly affected by a project. This makes the feedback more reliable and fair.
  • Open and Ongoing Engagement – You don’t need to attend a meeting to participate. PlaceSpeak makes it easy to stay involved, anytime, anywhere. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll be notified about future projects that matter to you.
  • Multiple Ways to Participate – Each project uses a mix of tools like surveys, discussion boards, maps, and polls to support meaningful participation and two-way dialogue.
  • Supports Informed Decisions – PlaceSpeak helps the City gather well-organized input that can be used to shape public policy, design better programs, and support stronger, evidence-based decisions.
