Aquatic Centre Public Consultation

|

This stage of the Aquatic Centre public engagement is now complete. Public engagement sessions on a new aquatic centre took place from September 21 - 23, 2020. An aquatic centre survey, was available from September 21 until October 7, 2020, at engagement sessions and at City Hall. Residents can still learn about the project, its history, and the next steps by reading the Information Package.

The survey primarily explored the options of moving forward with this project with a 25-metre or 52-metre lap pool. The survey also looked to understand the additional spaces and aquatic centre amenities that Yellowknifers would most like to see.

Previous Public Engagement Sessions

Public engagement sessions explored the project in detail, looking at the need for a new aquatic centre, the pre-design plan, and possibilities available moving forward. Public engagement sessions took place in accordance with all Public Health Orders issued by the Chief Public Health Officer.

  • Monday, September 21, 2020 | 7 – 9 p.m. | Multiplex, Shorty Brown Arena
  • Tuesday, September 22, 2020 | 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. | Multiplex, Shorty Brown Arena
  • Wednesday, September 23, 2020 | 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. | Somba K’e Civic Plaza *Weather permitting

The COVID-19 pandemic and associated guidelines issued by the Canadian Public Health Association and the GNWT, posed challenges to the Public Consultation Strategy that the City has used, and the public has been accustomed to, in the past. City staff and the Taylor Architecture Group (TAG) worked diligently to finalize a consultation strategy that ensured the public was provided with the critical information needed to make an informed decision on the project, in a format that follows all Public Health Orders and advice.

Following the conclusion of the public engagement sessions and survey, TAG will present to Council and a decision will be made on how to proceed with this project.
