The City of Yellowknife, in agreement with Employment and Social Development Canada, is the Community Entity (administrator) that receives funding from the Government of Canada's Reaching Home, and acts on behalf of the Yellowknife Community Advisory Board (CAB) on Homelessness. CAB members work toward realizing the Community Plan on Homelessness, identifying and recommending projects to receive funding to help reduce and prevent homelessness. Council established the Yellowknife Community Advisory Board (CAB) on Homelessness and adopted the Terms of Reference on April 28, 2014. Please view our Community Advisory Board on Homelessness page for further information.
To read the Reaching Home directives for Designated Communities (urban centers), Indigenous communities, territorial communities and rural and remote communities across Canada go to: Reaching Home: Canada's Homelessness Strategy Directives.
The current Community Plan for Yellowknife identifies three priorities:
- Housing First Readiness & Implementation
- Increase Housing Options for Youth
- Integrated Service Supports
The current Reaching Home Contribution Agreement with the City of Yellowknife exists for the years 2019-2024. The CAB continues to work diligently on filling the above priorities.
