In the spring, the City of Yellowknife organizes a large item pickup week. During this week, residents (with regular Curbside Cart collection only) can have their large items collected by the City free of charge.
Large Item Pickup will take place the week of June 8 - 12, 2026. Please use the form Large Item Pickup 2026 and email it to LIPU@yellowknife.ca or deliver to City Hall Customer Service team.
RESTRICTED LARGE PICKUP ITEMS:
NO CATEGORY I - TIPPING FEE ITEMS with applicable tipping fees will NOT be picked up such as:
- Mattresses
- Fridges
- Freezers
- Ovens/Stoves
- Microwaves
- Dishwashers
- Washers & Dryers
- Hot Water Tanks
- Cars
- Tires
- Residential Construction Waste, etc.
NO CATEGORY II - HAZARDOUS WASTE ITEMS will NOT be picked up such as:
- Batteries
- Paints
- Solvents
- Oils
- Chemicals
- Oil Tanks
- Animal Waste
- Engines/Motors
- Propane Tanks
- Motor Bikes, etc.
NO CATEGORY III - RECYCLABLE ITEMS will NOT be picked up such as:
- Cardboard
- Glass
- Newspaper
- Grass Clippings
- Yard Waste
- Brush, Tree Trimming etc.
- Electronic Waste Items: Computers, TV's, Printers, etc.
YES CATEGORY - Items that will be picked up:
- Couches
- Bedframes & Headboards
- Some Furniture
- Bicycles
- Barbeques (NO propane tanks)
