Committees of Council are established to study issues and make recommendations to City Council. They are broken down into two categories: standing committees and ad hoc committees. City Council has also established technical and administrative committees to assist in various matters affecting the community. Accessibility Advisory Committee |

Are you looking to make a difference in your community? Why not consider serving as a volunteer member of the Accessibility Advisory Committee? The Accessibility Advisory Committee provides advice to the municipal council on identifying, preventing and eliminating barriers to people with disabilities in municipal programs, services, initiatives and facilities. The committee plays a pivotal role in helping the City of Yellowknife to become an accessible community. Seven members of the advisory committee must be members of the public that reflect a diversity of the types of accessibility issues faced by residents of our community. Disability includes a physical, mental, intellectual, learning, or sensory impairment—including an episodic disability—that, in interaction with a barrier, hinders an individual’s full and effective participation in society. Membership may also include individuals representing a broad range of under-served and equity seeking groups such as, but not limited to: i. Indigenous peoples; ii. Faith based groups; iii. LGBTQ2S+; iv. Newcomers, new Canadians; v. Persons living in poverty; vi. Racialized people, people of diverse ethnic or cultural origin; vii. Seniors; viii. Women; ix. Youth. Applications are available online or can be picked up at City Hall. Your completed application may be submitted online, by mail, in person, or by email to: Address: 4807 – 52 Street, P.O. Box 580, Yellowknife, NT X1A 2N4 E-mail: cityclerk@yellowknife.ca Subject line: Accessibility Advisory Committee Volunteer For more information about the Accessibility Advisory Committee, refer to Terms of Reference or contact the City at (867)920-5602 or email cityclerk@yellowknife.ca.
