Yellowknife Transit Information
What you need to know about Yellowknife Transit can be found in our Yellowknife Transit Brochure.

Yellowknife Transit Etiquette

Please refer to Public Transit By-law No. 4284, as amended.

  • Entering/Exiting the Bus
    • Passengers are asked to enter through the front doors and exit through the rear doors.
  • Fares
    • Please have your fare ready when you board the bus. When paying cash, please have exact change as bus drivers do not carry change.
    • Monthly passes and ticket sheets offer discounts for everyone, and can be purchased at various locations around the City.
  • Courtesy Seating
    • The seats at the front of the bus are reserved for people with disabilities or injuries, seniors and expectant mothers.
    • Anyone seated in this area should willingly give up their seat when a passenger requiring courtesy seating boards the bus.
  • Move to the Back
    • Once you have boarded the bus please move to the back. This will allow more room for people who are boarding.
  • Strollers
    • Strollers should be folded before boarding the bus.
  • Personal Belongings
    • Please ensure that all of your belongings are placed on your lap or at your feet. This will leave aisles clear for easier movement of passengers.
    • Backpacks should be taken off and carried to avoid hitting other passengers when moving through the bus.
  • Food & Drinks
    • Consumption of any food or drinks while on Yellowknife Transit is prohibited (as indicated by signage).
  • Trash on the Bus
    • All buses are equipped with garbage cans for your use. Please place any trash in these bins to help keep Yellowknife Transit vehicles clean.
  • Unsuitable Language
    • The use of profanity on Yellowknife Transit is unacceptable. Please remember you are sharing your ride with many other people – respect others by keeping your language clean.
  • Graffiti
    • Yellowknife Transit works hard to provide you with clean vehicles for your ride; thousands of dollars are spent each year to clean up graffiti.
    • Please keep Yellowknife Transit vehicles graffiti free.
  • Loud Noises
    • Personal listening devices are welcome on Yellowknife Transit, with headphones.
    • Please listen to them at a reasonable volume as the people seated around you may not enjoy the same music as you.

To further reduce contact between drivers and passengers the City has replaced Punch Passes with sheets of tickets. Sheets of tickets are now available for purchase. Those who still have punch passes may exchange them at City Hall.
