The Science of the Sacred Book Launch 

In The Science of the Sacred: Bridging Global Indigenous Medicine Systems and Modern Scientific Priciples, naturopathic doctor and First Nations member Nicole Redvers, N.D., explores the ways in which modern medicial science is finally able to support traditional healing systems that have been practiced by Indigenous and traditional cultures for centuries.

Dene Kede | Speak Dene Cafe 

The Yellowknife Public Library is excited to host the Speak Dene Cafe with Paul Andrew. 

The idea is simple. We get together to speak a Dene language. Open to everyone and anyone. 

First gathering on Monday, May 13 at Noon - 1pm in the Library Meeting Room.

Harry Potter has fallen asleep at Hogwarts and found himself trapped back at the Durlseys! Test your wizarding knowledge & skills to break Harry out of his terrible dream. 

Sessions availalbe May 22 - 27.

Room takes approximately 1 hour. 

Teams of up to 5 permitted. 

Best suited for wizards ages 12+.

Yellowknife Public Library offers a fast growing collection of online resources, including ebooks and audiobooks. We invite you to meet one-on-one with a librarian to learn how to download e-books, and Audiobooks from the library's collection onto your e-reader, mobile device, or laptop.

You can also learn how to use the library's other great digital resources including Rocket Languages and Freegal Music.

T.A.I.L.S. Program - Read to a Dog

Children between the ages of 6 - 12, who love dogs and want to practice reading, can book 20 minutes with a specially trained dog.

This program is offered in partnership with the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program.

Sessions are available every Saturday (except holiday weekends) from January 19, 2019 - June 29, 2019.

Tuesday Toddler Time  18-36 months (Drop in: No registration required)

Let your toddler explore the world through stories, rhymes, finger plays and songs that reinforce language development and learning. This lively and interactive program offers special one-on-one time for children and their caregivers. Admission is free. The programming will be followed by a half hour of socialization time.

Wednesday Pre-School Story Time 3 - 5 years (Drop in: No registration required)

Story Time is a fun way to introduce your child to the joys of books and learning. Join us for stories, fun, and crafts in the library meeting room. We ask that a parent or caregiver attend with the child. Admission is free.

Thursday Baby Time 0 - 18 months (Drop in: No registration required)

Join us for a program that introduces you and your baby to the joy of music, rhyme, lap play, and more. This early childhood literacy program is for children aged 18 months and younger and their parent or caregiver. Siblings welcome. Admission is free. The program will be followed by a half hour of socialization time.

Draw your Own Pokémon Contest

Want a chance to win a Build a Bear Pokémon?

Contest Runs from June 15 to August 15, 2019

Drop by the library or visit www.yellowknife.ca/ypl to pick up an entry sheet. Enter as many times as you like!  Winning entry will be drawn on August 16 and the library will be displaying the wonderful Pokémon creations in the library.

Babies Create With Paints

Children ages 6 months to 2 years old are invited to drop in and create a masterpiece for the Library!

When: Friday, June 21 from 2-5 pm

             Saturday, June 22 from 10-1 pm

Where: Children’s Area of Library

Cost: Free

1 canvas per child will be provided.

The Library will exhibit the works of art from July to October.

Drop-in during the above times but please note that cutoff time for the last sitting to paint is ½ hr before the end time of the program.  This will be a very messy program, please dress accordingly.
