Speak English Cafe

Join us at the library and practice speaking English in a friendly, relaxed environment. 

English speakers are also welcome to join to volunteer their time and conversation!

Every Tuesday at 6:30pm - 8:00pm in the Library Meeting Room

Harry Potter Escape Room 

One of our most popular programs, the Harry Potter Escape Room, is back! Call, email or visit the library to book your session. 

 

December 10 - 22

Sessions are 1 hour

5 wizards maximum per team 

Room best suited for wizards ages 12+ (teams of all kids need an adult in the room) 

Based entirely on the first book of the series

Room is the same as previous rounds (but don't worry a new room is coming in the New Year!)

 

Chess Club 

The chess club is returning to Yellowknife Public Library. Beginners are welcome and materials are provided.

Sock Hop: drop in knitting, crochet & other crafts program

Join us for a craft-together on the first Thursday evening of every month! Bring your work in progress or come by and learn something new (we have materials for kniting & crocheting).

Yellowknife Public Library offers a fast growing collection of online resources, including ebooks and audiobooks. We invite you to meet one-on-one with a librarian to learn how to download e-books, and Audiobooks from the library's collection onto your e-reader, mobile device, or laptop.

You can also learn how to use the library's other great digital resources including Rocket Languages and Freegal Music.

Colour Me Happy

Colouring is a great way to de-stress and have fun! Check out our selection of colouring sheets and supplies for adults & teens in the magazine area. Plus, you can submit your masterpiece for a chance to win a great book bundle!

Christmas Eve Extra-Grinchy Double Feature

Join us in the library meeting room for hot chocolate, holiday treats, and lots of Grinchy-ness! We'll be screening the classic version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas at 10:30am and the Jim Carrey version at 1:30pm.

T.A.I.L.S. Program - Read to a Dog

Children between the ages of 6 - 12, who love dogs and want to practice reading, can book 20 minutes with a specially trained dog.

This program is offered in partnership with the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program.

Sessions are available every Saturday (except holiday weekends) from September 29, 2018 - December 15, 2018.

Tuesday Toddler Time  18-36 months (Drop in: No registration required)

Let your toddler explore the world through stories, rhymes, finger plays and songs that reinforce language development and learning. This lively and interactive program offers special one-on-one time for children and their caregivers. Admission is free. The programming will be followed by a half hour of socialization time.

Wednesday Pre-School Story Time 3 - 5 years (Drop in: No registration required)

Story Time is a fun way to introduce your child to the joys of books and learning. Join us for stories, fun, and crafts in the library meeting room. We ask that a parent or caregiver attend with the child. Admission is free.

Thursday Baby Time 0 - 18 months (Drop in: No registration required)

Join us for a program that introduces you and your baby to the joy of music, rhyme, lap play, and more. This early childhood literacy program is for children aged 18 months and younger and their parent or caregiver. Siblings welcome. Admission is free. The program will be followed by a half hour of socialization time.

Polar Express Party (Saturday)

Minimum of 10 participants to proceed

December 8 from 1-3:00 pm

Target audience: Ages 4 to 8

Join us for our annual reading of The Polar Express as well as other great holiday tales. Afterwards, rotate through the holiday craft stations and create gifts that express your unique style!
