Please join these Elders for one-on-one discussions at the library. Topics may include: culture, health/wellness/healing, history, and more!

Newfoundland Tea Time

Date: Friday, October 18

Time: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Join our Library Manager for some great treats and visit with your fellow library users. This will be held in the Community Lounge Area.

 

 Linocut Workshop  with MakerSpaceYK

Ages 12 and up.

Date: Saturday, October 19

Time: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Linocut is a printmaking technique.

Movie afternoon: The Public

This is a partnered program with the NWT Literacy Council. Movie is rated PG13

Date: Saturday, October 26

Time: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

An act of civil disobedience turns into a standoff with police when homeless people in Cincinnati take over the public library to seek shelter from the bitter cold.

Yellowknife Public Library offers a fast growing collection of online resources, including ebooks and audiobooks. We invite you to meet one-on-one with a librarian to learn how to download e-books, and Audiobooks from the library's collection onto your e-reader, mobile device, or laptop.

You can also learn how to use the library's other great digital resources including Rocket Languages and Freegal Music.

Colour Me Happy

Colouring is a great way to de-stress and have fun! Check out our selection of colouring sheets and supplies for adults & teens in the magazine area. Plus, you can submit your masterpiece for a chance to win a great book bundle!

 

 

Children (birth to 12 years old)

 

Tuesday Toddler Time  18-36 months (Drop in: No registration required)

Let your toddler explore the world through stories, rhymes, finger plays and songs that reinforce language development and learning. This lively and interactive program offers special one-on-one time for children and their caregivers. Admission is free. The programming will be followed by a half hour of socialization time.

Wednesday Pre-School Story Time 3 - 5 years (Drop in: No registration required)

Story Time is a fun way to introduce your child to the joys of books and learning. Join us for stories, fun, and crafts in the library meeting room. We ask that a parent or caregiver attend with the child. Admission is free.

Thursday Baby Time 0 - 18 months (Drop in: No registration required)

Join us for a program that introduces you and your baby to the joy of music, rhyme, lap play, and more. This early childhood literacy program is for children aged 18 months and younger and their parent or caregiver. Siblings welcome. Admission is free. The program will be followed by a half hour of socialization time.

TAILS: Read to a dog!

Children aged 6‐12 can practice their reading one‐on-one

with a specially trained St John Ambulance therapy dog.

Reading to a dog is calming and reduces anxiety. It is perfect for shy or less confident readers.

Sessions are 20 minutes long, between 1pm ‐ 2pm on Saturdays.

Celebrity Story Time

Join us in the Children's area of the library for an hour of fun! Stories, songs, treats! This event is geared to families with children ages 3 to 7.

Movie night: The Pagemaster

This is a partnered program with the NWT Literacy Concil. The movie is rated G and is suitable for children 7 and up.

Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Seeking refuge from a storm, timid Richard Tyler enters an empty library only to be swept away into the magical animated world of the Pagemaster. It's a timeless place of wonder and discovery where legendary characters from literary classics come alive. Richard meets the infamous "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide" and comes face to face with the mighty "Moby Dick," the treacherous pirates on "Treasure Island" an a giant fire - breathing dragon, Guided by a trio of talking books - Adventure, Fantasy and horror - Richard must conquer his greatest fears before he can find his way home.
