The City of Yellowknife will conduct a test of the Voyent Alert! emergency notification system on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. This test is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to keeping residents informed and prepared in the event of an emergency.

Local Fire Ban Lifted – Effective July 10, 2025

Effective immediately, the mandatory local fire ban on open-air fires, issued on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, has been lifted following recent precipitation. Burning is now permitted in all approved fire pits within the City of Yellowknife.
Before starting a recreational fire, please remember the following:
- All recreational fires within the municipal boundary must be contained in an approved fire pit and require a valid permit, unless located in a designated Territorial Park area.

Closure Of Old Town Parking Lot for New Lift Station Construction

The Old Town Parking Lot will be closed to the public beginning July 22, 2025, to accommodate construction for the Lift Station #1 Replacement Project.
This project represents a significant investment in the City of Yellowknife’s wastewater and sewage infrastructure and is essential to maintaining reliable and efficient service for the community over the long term. Construction is expected to take approximately three years, during which time the parking lot will remain closed to public access.
Project Proposals For 2026 Budget

The City of Yellowknife invites the community to participate in the 2026 budget planning process by submitting project proposals, including cost estimates, through the online form available on the City’s website. Submissions will be accepted until Thursday, August 15, 2025.
