The City of Yellowknife is preparing for the next municipal election that will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026.
Yellowknife voters will elect the Mayor, City Councillors, and School Board Trustees.
Voter Information
To be eligible to vote you must be:
- 18 years of age
- A Canadian citizen
- and have resided in Yellowknife for 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the day on which you vote.

Candidate Information
Interested in becoming a candidate in the upcoming election?
To qualify as a candidate you must be:
- A Canadian citizen
- At least 18 years old
- you have, for at least twelve consecutive months immediately preceding the day nominations close, been ordinarily resident in the electoral district; and
- you are not disqualified by sections 18, 19 and 20 of the Local Authorities Elections Act.
