Council Procedure By-law

The rules of procedure for Council (Council Procedure By-law No. 4975) shall apply to all standing committees.

Committee Vacancies

The following positions are currently available:

Audit Committee

The City of Yellowknife is currently seeking volunteer to fill a vacancy for a member of the community with considerable experience in the operation and management of a large entity on its Audit Committee. The Audit Committee makes recommendations to City Council in all matters pertaining to the financial reporting process.  The Audit Committee meets on a quarterly basis and members will be paid honorarium. Individuals should apply online or submit a Letter of Application, explaining their interest in serving on the Audit Committee, to the City Clerk, City of Yellowknife, City Hall, Yellowknife, NT, fax 920-5649; or email cityclerk@yellowknife.ca.

Community Advisory Board on Homelessness

The City of Yellowknife is now accepting applications for a representative from: an Aboriginal Organization and a Yellowknife Business.

The purpose of the Community Advisory Board on Homelessness (CAB) is to assist the City in an advisory capacity regarding homelessness issues within the municipal boundaries of the City of Yellowknife.

The role of the CAB is to:

  1. Develop an Annual Community Plan adopted by City Council, for submission to the Federal Government for approval.
  2. Manage the Reacing Home - Canada's Homelessness Strategy funding process by ensuring:
  • compliance with the Reaching Home program eligibility and Community Plan;
  • projects are aligned with the Federally approved Community Plan priorities;
  • project feasibility, value for money and sustainability are endorsed; and
  • an annual review of the Community Plan.

Heritage Committee

The City of Yellowknife is seeking volunteers to fill a vacancy on its Heritage Committee – a body created to help conserve, protect and celebrate the heritage of Yellowknife for the benefit of present and future residents.  The City welcomes applications from all interested persons, however, those with a strong knowledge of Yellowknife history are particularly encouraged to apply.

Mayor's Task Force on Economic Development

The City of Yellowknife is currently seeking volunteers to fill a vacancy for one representative from Arts, Crafts and Film on the Mayor’s Task Force on Economic Development.

The purpose of the Task Force is to provide input into development of the City of Yellowknife’s 2019-2024 Economic Development Strategy (the “Strategy”) and provide ongoing advice in the implementation phase of the Strategy.

In particular, the Task Force will assist in the development of the economic growth strategies for sectors identified by the Strategy, provide guidance on implementation, identify and leverage strength areas, and draw on existing economic development organizations, as well as municipal, territorial, Indigenous and federal governments, to ensure a collaborative effort resulting in economic growth.

University/Post-Secondary Advisory Committee

The City of Yellowknife is currently seeking volunteer to fill a vacancy for a representative from the business community on the University / Post-Secondary Advisory Committee.

The University / Post-Secondary Advisory Committee is established for the purpose of providing advice and guidance to the City throughout the development of a response to the City’s University/Post‐Secondary Institution Feasibility and Benefits Study and will inform the City’s efforts to establish the presence of a university/postsecondary institution in Yellowknife, as articulated in the Aurora College Foundational Review Report.
