Please adhere to the following rules when public skating at a City facility:

  • Patrons must respect, listen, and follow instructions from the on-site skating supervisor at all times. Please report all accidents or injuries to the on-site supervisor immediately.
  • Skaters are asked to skate at a sensible and safe speed in the same direction as other skaters. Please stop when the whistle is sounded.
  • Only persons wearing skates are permitted on the ice surface .
  • CSA-approved helmets are mandatory for Shinny Hockey. It is highly recommended that all skaters wear a CSA-approved helmet during all skating sessions.
  • The centre of the ice surface is reserved for children and less confident skaters.
  • Children 6 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult or guardian who is also on skates.
  • Wheelchairs, Strollers and Skating Aids:
    • Wheelchairs, strollers and E-Z gliders are permitted during Family and Public Skating sessions with the accompaniment of a responsible person on skates.
    • Wheels must be cleaned prior to entering the ice surface to ensure the safety of all other skaters.
    • Helmets are required for stroller and wheelchair occupants.
    • Wheelchair/stroller occupants are asked to utilize the perimeter of the ice closest to the boards.
    • Chairs are not permitted on the ice.
  • Patrons of City facilities are personally responsible for ensuring that they are fit to participate in physical activities. Anyone with a condition affecting his/her ability to participate must take appropriate safety precautions to ensure his/her own safety and is encouraged to be accompanied by an adult who is knowledgeable about his/her condition
  • The following are NOT PERMITTED on the ice at any time:
    • carrying children (including baby carriers).
