Spring Clean-up 2024

With warmer weather on the horizon and the return of longer days, the City of Yellowknife is once again offering Spring Clean-Up service contracts to non-profit organizations. This long-running program offers $550 to community groups to clean up an assigned area in the city following the spring snowmelt.

Resignation of City Manager

The City of Yellowknife is sad to announce that John Collin has tendered his resignation as City Manager for personal reasons. His final day with the City of Yellowknife will be May 13, 2024.

“This is unexpected but Council would like to extend our best wishes to John,” said Mayor Rebecca Alty. “Council is determining next steps to fill the City Manager position given this unexpected news. We will update when further information is confirmed, and will appoint an interim City Manager by May 13.”

Annual Rock Climbing Competition

The City of Yellowknife, in collaboration with the Yellowknife Climbing Club (YKCC), invites the public to attend the 2nd Annual City of Yellowknife Rock Climbing Competition on Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Fieldhouse.

Come cheer on our local bouldering and rock climbing competitors as they go head to head at the climbing wall. Climbing competition categories include: kids (4-9 years old), youth (10-14 years old), women (15+) and open (15+).

Parking Meter Rate Changes

In February 2024, Council passed an amendment to the Fees and Charges By-law No. 4436, increasing rates for all parking meters in Yellowknife.

Starting today, April 17, until April 30, the Municipal Enforcement Division will be working across the city to reprogram all parking meters with the new rates. Fire on Cameron Road

At approximately 10:45 p.m. on April 15, 2024, the City of Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) responded to a call on Cameron Road for a report of a fire.

Upon arrival, crews saw flames and smoke outside coming from the yard area, as a result of stored materials catching fire. YKFD extinguished the fire and was on the scene until approximately 1:45 a.m. The Municipal Enforcement Division diverted traffic on the scene.
