When Should You Call An Ambulance?

The City of Yellowknife (the City) is reminding residents to take into consideration the seriousness of the situation before calling emergency services. The Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) continues to receive a high volume of calls for emergency medical services, which is adding pressure on the service.

2023 Amnesty Day

The City of Yellowknife (the City) is excited to announce that Amnesty Day at the Solid Waste Facility will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

During this time, the residential $16.50 tipping fee at the Solid Waste Facility will be waived but other tipping fees will still apply.

Please note: Commercial vehicles are not included under the Residential Vehicle Charge and therefore will be charged commercial rates during Amnesty Day.

NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATOR WEEK

National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week is celebrated each year during the second week of April.  The Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) Public Safety Communication Centre (PSCC) has staff who dedicate their lives to serving the public. PSCC dispatchers answer emergency and non-emergency calls and connect callers to emergency care, fire response and provide valuable resources to those in need.

Civic Holiday March 31, 2023

On Monday, March 27, Yellowknife City Council declared a half-day civic holiday for Friday, March 31, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. in recognition of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation’s Spring Carnival.

In observance of the half-day civic holiday, City facilities will operate as follows:

  • City Hall: 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Solid Waste Facility: Closed
  • Fieldhouse: Regular hours
  • Multiplex: Regular hours
  • Ruth Inch Memorial Pool: Regular hours
