Property Assessment Notices

Please be advised that Property Assessment Notices have been mailed to all ratepayers (persons or businesses responsible for paying property taxes). Assessment Open Houses are scheduled for January 18 and 19, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at City Hall. The Assessor will be on site to answer assessment questions by appointment. Residents may call (867) 920-5664 or (867) 920-5625 to make an appointment with the Assessor or to speak to a representative regarding assessments.

Structure Fire on Gitzel Street

The Yellowknife Fire Division received a call for service to 992 Gitzel Street on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 7:10 p.m., as a fire was reported at this structure.

The initial attack crews were not able to make entry into the structure, as the fire had burned through the floor and was located in the crawl space. Crews repositioned themselves and attacked the fire from the crawl space.

Holiday Lights Competition Winners

The City of Yellowknife (the City) and Northland Utilities are pleased to announce the winners of this season’s Annual Holiday Lights Competition. The top five winners will receive a $100 prize courtesy of Northland Utilities and a "City of Yellowknife Holiday Lights Top 5" plaque for display.

Ice Safety Reminder

The City of Yellowknife is advising residents to use caution while on the ice on the various lakes around the city.

The City has received information of a large hole in the ice on Yellowknife Bay between Joliffe Island and Old Town. Ice conditions may be unpredictable and may change significantly from one area to the next, especially because of the milder conditions seen this winter.

Fuel Truck Fire at 124 Bristol Avenue

On Friday, December 22, 2023 at 9:20 a.m., the Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) received a call for service for a fuel truck fire at the refueling station located at 124 Bristol Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, smoke and flames were visible on and around the fuel truck.

The YKFD used a hose line to contain the fire to the fuel truck. With the assistance from the Airport Fire Department who arrived on scene, the fire was quickly extinguished. There were no injuries reported and the fire was...
