City Wide Fire Ban Reinstated

Effective immediately the City of Yellowknife is re-implementing a mandatory open air burning ban. The ban includes the use of approved fire pits within the city.

Due to very dry conditions, no indication of rain in the forecast, and an expected increase in lightning activity later in the week, the City of Yellowknife’s Fire Chief, Nelson Johnson, has implemented an open air burning ban.

City Wide Fire Ban Lifted

Effective immediately, the mandatory ban on open air fires that was put in place on Thursday, June 9, 2022, has been lifted for the City of Yellowknife. The ban may be reinstated at any time if extremely dry forestry conditions return.

Canada Day Parade Road Closure

The City of Yellowknife (the City) wishes to advise residents of road closures for the 2022 Rotary Community Parade on Canada Day occurring Friday, July 1, 2022.

The parade will start at 11:00 a.m. in front of City Hall on Veterans Memorial Drive (49 Avenue), it will then turn right onto 48 Street, and turn right again onto Franklin Avenue (50 Avenue) and continue on Franklin Avenue until it finishes by the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool.
