The City of Yellowknife is setting up a new course for how our community moves. Today, the City officially launches Yellowknife’s Transportation Plan, Let’s Move YK.
Let’s Move YK will serve as a roadmap to guide how we move around our city for the next 25 years. It will set the stage for safer streets, more active transportation options, improved transit, and year-round accessibility tailored to Yellowknife’s northern climate and unique community needs.

The City of Yellowknife takes its responsibility as an emergency host community seriously and stands ready in times of need. We warmly welcome evacuees from Whatı̀ and Fort Providence, and we are working closely with community leadership, the Tłı̨chǫ Government, the Government of the Northwest Territories, and the Salvation Army to ensure both critical services and access to City amenities are available.

The City of Yellowknife continues to work closely with the Government of Northwest Territories Emergency Management Office, Tłı̨chǫ Government, and communities to coordinate evacuee services.

Whatì Evacuees – Yellowknife Reception Centre Now Open

The Fieldhouse reception center is now open.
It currently has 110 beds available, access to showers, and essential facilities.
All evacuees must sign in at the Tłı̨chǫ reception desk, located on site until 10:00 p.m. and re-opening at 6:30 a.m.

The City of Yellowknife is preparing to welcome residents of Whatì who were ordered to evacuate their community as a result of the threat of wildfire ZF048-25.
The City is working with several Government of the Northwest Territories departments through the North Slave Regional Emergency Management Organization (REMO) to coordinate resources and provide necessary support. The Behchokǫ̀ Sports Plex is now open as an evacuation center and actively registering evacuees.
