Mayor for a Day


Mayor Rebecca Alty is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Mayor for a Day competition! Over 100 aspiring young politicians wrote to Mayor Alty stating why they wanted to be Mayor and two things they would do to make Yellowknife an even better Community.

Congratulations to Leanne Karembera, a Grade 5 student from Weledeh Catholic School, and Jae Won, a Grade 5 student from École St. Joseph School, who will be Mayors for the day on Friday, December 11

The winners will receive a City of Yellowknife gift bag.  The schedule will include:

  •  Be (unofficially) sworn in, in the Council Chamber;
  • Meeting in Mayor Alty’s Office to discuss the Mayors for a day’s plans;
  • Tour of the Fire Hall;
  • Lunch with Mayor Alty at Boston Pizza;
  • Tour of the Water Treatment Plant; and
  • Interview on 100.1 Moose FM.

The City of Yellowknife and 100.1 Moose FM would like to thank everyone who participated.
