ALARM AT 4503 52 AVE – WATERMARK TOWER

YELLOWKNIFE, NORTHWEST TERRITORIES | January 22, 2026

On Wednesday, January 21, at approximately 12:59 p.m., the City of Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) responded to a report of smoke coming from the roof of the Watermark Tower, located at 4503 52 Avenue.

Upon arrival, responding crews observed dark smoke coming from the building's roof. A total of eight firefighters were initially deployed to the scene.

The smoke was caused by a heating boiler in the building. A fire alarm pull station had been activated near the main lobby. The boiler was turned off, with follow-up maintenance and repairs to be conducted by building maintenance staff.

YKFD reminds everyone that inspection and maintenance should be conducted as required on all heating devices, and that all portable and fixed heating devices must maintain a safe working clearance to prevent overheating of nearby materials.
