The City of Yellowknife, in partnership with the Nordic Embassies of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Iceland, will host Resilience in the Arctic, a half-day seminar focused on strengthening social, economic, and security resilience across Arctic communities. The event is invite only due to limited capacity at the venue.
The seminar will take place on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Explorer Hotel (Katimavik B Conference Room). This event will bring together the five Nordic Ambassadors to Canada, Indigenous leaders, municipal and territorial officials, and northern experts to exchange knowledge and perspectives on shared Arctic challenges and opportunities, including social issues, security and sovereignty, technology, and trade and investment.
“Resilience in the Arctic is shaped locally but influenced by global forces,” said Mayor Ben Hendriksen. “Resilience is built through relationships, trust, and a willingness to prioritize understanding and collaboration over positioning. Creating space for thoughtful dialogue helps ensure northern realities are reflected in conversations that shape the Arctic’s future.”
Media availability with participating ambassadors and Mayor Hendriksen will be provided outside Katimavik B at 12:30 p.m., following the conclusion of the formal program.
To support open and constructive dialogue on complex and evolving issues, the seminar will operate under the Chatham House Rule, allowing information to be used and shared by those in attendance, while protecting the identity and affiliation of speakers.
