On July 1, 2025, at approximately 2:11 a.m., YKFD received a call to 5122 54 Street regarding an explosion involving a boat parked in the driveway of a residence. Upon arrival, YKFD crew found the boat was significantly damaged by the blast and debris in the immediate area. The explosion also caused significant damage to the residence’s garage, with additional damage sustained by neighbouring properties.
One individual, who was inside the boat at the time of the explosion, was transported from the scene to Stanton Territorial Hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries. No other individuals were injured during the incident.
The total financial cost of the damage is currently unknown.
The City of Yellowknife extends its appreciation to the Municipal Enforcement Division, the City of Yellowknife Public Works Department, and the RCMP for their assistance in responding to the incident.
