The City of Yellowknife (the City) wishes to advise residents of a change in service provider for the local dog pound effective June 1, 2024.

The City’s current dog impound services provider, Great Slave Animal Hospital (GSAH), has informed the City that effective June 1, they will no longer provide dog impound services. This means that GSAH will no longer hold dogs that are impounded by the City’s Municipal Enforcement Division (MED) and will no longer provide City dog licensing. Work is underway to find alternatives, including issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Dog Impound Services.

The City would like to invite qualified proponents to submit a proposal for the Dog Impound Services RFP by visiting the following link: https://yellowknife.bidsandtenders.ca/Module/Tenders/en. The RFP closes on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Once the RFP process is completed and a new service provider has been selected, the City will provide residents with an update, including information on what to do with loose dogs and where to find impounded dogs. Please follow the City of Yellowknife’s social media pages and website for updates.

The City thanks Great Slave Animal Hospital for their years of partnership with MED, and their work on returning dogs to their owners.
