City staff returned to work on March 20, 2023, and started preparing for the opening of facilities and resumption of programs. The City of Yellowknife (the City) would like to update residents on the phased resumption of City services and programs.

Please note: Not all City facilities will open at the same time and programs may not resume at the same time, as these all depend on factors like scheduling, staff training, and ensuring facilities are prepared for public use. The City will send out public notice and update the website as services resume.

As of Tuesday, March 21, 2023, City Hall, the Yellowknife Public Library, Ruth Inch Memorial Pool, Multiplex, Fieldhouse and Visitor Information Centre will be open to the public (please see below for details).

City Hall: Open to the public as of Tuesday, March 21 for regular Winter business hours. Building Services and Planning and Lands will be open by appointment only.  Please email buildingservices@yellowknife.ca or planningandlands@yellowknife.ca to make an appointment for service. The Municipal Enforcement Division in City Hall will reopen for regular hours on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

Yellowknife Public Library: Open to the public on Tuesday, March 21 for regular hours. In-person and online services will be available. Special YPL programs will not resume right away, please stay tuned to the City’s social media and website for more information.

Ruth Inch Memorial Pool: Open to the public as of Tuesday March 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., please visit https://www.yellowknife.ca/en/getting-active/pool-schedule.aspx  for more information about available swims. More information on swimming lessons and registration dates will be provided in the upcoming days.

Multiplex: Open to the public as of Tuesday, March 21 for regular hours.

Fieldhouse: The track and climbing wall are open to the public as of Tuesday, March 21 for regular hours. Drop-in programs will resume as previously scheduled.  

Yellowknife Community Arena: Open to the public as of Tuesday, March 21 at 4 p.m.

Visitor Information Centre: Open to the public as of Tuesday, March 21 for regular hours.

Solid Waste Facility: Open to the public as of Tuesday, March 28, 2023, for its regular hours of 11 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. For contractors, the SWF will reopen on Monday, March 27, 2023, for regular hours.

Please note the SWF will be closed on Friday, April 7, 2023; Sunday, April 9; and Monday, April 10, for the Easter weekend. It will be open for regular hours on Saturday, April 8.

Lessons and Programs: Event planning has resumed and details for special events such as the Easter Skate and Spring Clean-up will be provided at a later date.  Recreation programming is underway and more information regarding available programs and registration dates will be provided in the upcoming weeks.

Waste Disposal: Garbage pick-up will continue this week and the week of March 27. Compost and organics pick-up will begin the week of April 3. After this, the regular bi-weekly rotating schedule will continue (garbage the week of April 10, organics the week of April 17, etc).

Public Safety: As there were no changes during the labour disruption, there will be no impact to public safety services. The Municipal Enforcement Division in City Hall will reopen for regular hours on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
