The City of Yellowknife would like to inform residents that portions of Deh Cho Boulevard will be closed to the public for firesmarting work. Local traffic will be permitted to access the area.

As a result of firesmarting work in this area over the last several days, the City requested that residents to avoid the area and follow posted signage. However, residents continue to access this route, which delays our progress. Equipment must discontinue operations for each passing vehicle or pedestrian to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Once again, the City asks residents to stay away from this area while work continues.

The City wants to stress that our community is not currently at threat. These measures are precautionary, and more information on the situation will become available as it develops. The City urges residents to remain vigilant and keep fire safety a priority. The City’s Evacuation Framework Overview can be found on its website, and additional information about emergency preparedness can be found on the GNWT’s and Federal Government’s websites.

Residents looking for more information on firesmarting their own properties can find information on the City’s website.
