The City of Yellowknife and the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce have released a January 2026 progress update on the Downtown Safety Initiative, outlining actions taken and work underway to support a safer, more welcoming, and more vibrant downtown.

The update follows the What We Heard Report, which was published and shared in September 2025 after the Downtown Business Safety and Vitality session held in June. That report captured feedback and ideas from local business owners and identified a set of short-term priorities to act on early.

Since then, the City, the Chamber, and community partners have been advancing several of those priorities, including supporting downtown events, strengthening coordination around safety and incident response, and continuing to explore longer-term initiatives identified by businesses.

To share these updates and continue the conversation, the City and the Chamber will host a virtual business update and Q&A session:
  • What: Downtown Safety Initiative Updates
  • When: February 16, 2026, 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Where: Teams Meeting

The session will provide a brief overview of progress to date, outline next steps, and offer space for questions, ideas, and ongoing dialogue.

The Downtown Safety Initiative January 2026 Progress Report, along with the What We Heard Report, is available on the City of Yellowknife and Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce websites.
