Yellowknife is growing, changing and facing many opportunities and challenges, some we can see coming and some that we cannot right now. A community plan is an important tool to help guide our community over the next twenty-five years regardless of what comes.
What do you want Yellowknife to look and feel like in 25 years? The City of Yellowknife invites all residents to help shape the future of our community as it begins a comprehensive update to its Community Plan.
Through “Let’s Talk YK 2050”, the City is launching a series of opportunities for residents to share their vision, priorities, and ideas for the future. The updated Community Plan will guide how Yellowknife grows and evolves, including housing, infrastructure, land use, environment, and climate resilience.
Residents can get involved in a variety of ways:
• Join the Community Advisory Table, a volunteer group supporting outreach and feedback efforts. Use this form to confirm your eligibility and submit your application.
• Apply to be a Community Animator to help with engagement events, which include tasks like welcoming participants, encouraging feedback, and taking notes. A detailed role description and the application form can be found here.
• Be informed by following the project on PlaceSpeak — all updates, announcements, and future engagement opportunities will be shared through the platform. Please create a PlaceSpeak account to stay connected.
• Stay tuned via the City’s social media channels.
• Stop by in-person visioning events, including:
o At the Farmer’s Market (Somba K'e Civic Plaza) on July 8, Tuesday, from 5:15 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.
o At the Aquatic Centre on July 9, Wednesday, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., and on July 10, Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. - 11 a.m.
o At the Lakeshore Co-Op on July 9, Wednesday, from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
“We’re asking people to think with ambition and help shape what Yellowknife can be,” says Mayor Ben Hendriksen. “This is your city, and your voice matters in building its future.”
