On July 31, 2025, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) requested the Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) to respond to a motor vehicle incident on Highway 3 involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial truck.
The occupant of the passenger vehicle required assistance exiting the vehicle. However, no specialized equipment was necessary. The individual was transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the commercial truck did not report any injuries.
As a result of the incident, traffic delays occurred on Highway 3 between Old Airport Road and Highway 4 while emergency crews managed the scene. Normal traffic flow resumed at approximately 1:30 p.m. once the scene was cleared.
The YKFD advises all road users to exercise caution near emergency scenes. For public safety, it is essential to slow down, remain alert, and follow all posted signage and instructions from emergency personnel. Drivers and passengers are reminded to wear seatbelts at all times. When used in combination with supplemental restraint systems, such as airbags, seatbelts significantly reduce the risk of serious injury.
The Yellowknife Fire Division extends its appreciation to Yellowknife Municipal Enforcement and the RCMP for their assistance at the scene.
