In recognition of National Police Week, taking place from May 11 to 17, 2025, the City of Yellowknife (the City) honours the contributions of the Municipal Enforcement Division (MED), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and the many first responders and community organizations dedicated to serving our residents every day.
This year’s theme, “Committed to Serve Together,” highlights the importance of partnership in maintaining public safety. The City celebrates the collaboration among enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and the people and organizations who call Yellowknife home. These partnerships are essential for building a safe, inclusive, and resilient community.
“This week is an opportunity for the police and citizens to recognize the connection that exists between us, to better understand one another, and to see that it takes all of us working together to make our communities a safe place to live.”
- Thomas Carrique, President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police
MED and RCMP officers will be set up at Somba K’e Plaza on Tuesday, May 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to engage with residents. During this event, residents are also invited to come by for a community BBQ, which will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to take this opportunity to connect with local law enforcement and learn more about their ongoing work in the community.
Community safety is a collective goal that relies on open dialogue, mutual respect, and ongoing cooperation. In Yellowknife, policing is more than a duty—it is a relationship grounded in trust, visibility, and shared responsibility. The City extends its sincere gratitude to all those who serve and protect Yellowknife. Your dedication continues to strengthen the foundation of a safer community for all.
