The City of Yellowknife is inviting residents to attend a public Open House on Thursday, April 16, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Explorer Hotel (Katimavik A Room) to learn more about the Raw Water Supply Upgrade Project.
This project will modernize and expand the City’s raw water system, helping ensure a safe, reliable, and resilient drinking water supply for the long term.
The Open House is an opportunity for residents to learn about the project, ask questions, and share feedback.
About the Project
The Raw Water Supply Upgrade Project is happening because the City’s water infrastructure is aging, with key components approaching the end of their useful life. The project will also help ensure an adequate water supply as the City grows.
The Raw Water Supply Upgrade project generally includes the full replacement and expansion of Pumphouse No. 1; modernization and equipment upgrades at Pumphouse No. 2; and the upgrade of the existing raw water intake screen and installation of a second new raw water intake at Pumphouse No. 1 so the intake system is redundant and meets regulatory requirements for fish protection and water withdrawal.
To complete the project, the City must submit regulatory permits, including a Type A Water Licence Amendment and Type A Land Use Permit.
Get Involved
This session will be held in person. At the Open House, attendees can ask questions to City and AECOM technical staff, fill out a comment form, and share knowledge related to Yellowknife Bay and the Yellowknife River.
