The City of Yellowknife invites the community to participate in the 2026 budget planning process by submitting project proposals, including cost estimates, through the online form available on the City’s website. Submissions will be accepted until Thursday, August 15, 2025.

All applicants are encouraged to complete every section of the form thoroughly, taking into consideration
Council’s Strategic Directions as well as potential tax and service implications. The information provided will assist the Council in evaluating the feasibility of proposed projects and their alignment with the Council’s objectives.

Those who submit a proposal by the August 15 deadline and wish to make a presentation in support of their submission may request to appear before the Council on August 25, 2025. To be added to the agenda for the Council meeting, please contact the Office of the City Clerk at cityclerk@yellowknife.ca or (867) 920-5602 by 10:00 a.m. on August 20, 2025.

It is important to note that the City is not permitted to have a budget deficit. Therefore, any proposed projects requiring additional funding will result in either a tax increase or a reduction in services or programs.

To submit a project for consideration, applicants must complete the following five steps:

  1. Provide contact information.
  2. Submit project details, including the project name, description, estimated cost, and the basis for the cost estimate.
  3. Indicate which of the Council’s Strategic Directions the project aligns with.
  4. Outline proposed funding options, including support for a tax increase or area(s) for service reductions.
  5. Submit the completed form online.
