Public notice is hereby given that the Council of the Municipal Corporation of the City of Yellowknife will hold a special meeting of the Governance and Priorities Committee at 12:15 p.m. on May 27, 2026 in the City Hall Council Chamber.
The purpose of this special meeting is to consider:
- A memorandum regarding whether to adopt:
- a Vacant Buildings By-law for the purpose of establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework for the identification, permitting, inspection, and enforcement of standards for vacant and abandoned buildings, and
- Amendments to Part 2 – Buildings Fees in Schedule B of the Fees and Charges By-law to allow the City to recover administrative and inspection costs associated with administering the Vacant Buildings By-law.
- A memorandum regarding whether to adopt a Mill Rate Policy that uses a tax ratio framework to maintain a 1:2 ratio between Residential and Commercial/Industrial property classes.
This Special Meeting has been called by the City Manager of the City of Yellowknife pursuant to Section 27 of the Cities, Towns and Villages Act of the Northwest Territories and Section 120 of By-law No. 5119, the Council Procedures By-law.
