On Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 7:36 a.m., the Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) responded to multiple reports of visible flames in the vicinity of Pilot’s Monument in Old Town.
Upon arrival, firefighters located a small wooden structure approximately 400 feet from the road, estimated to be 20 by 10 feet in size. The structure had been largely consumed by fire, and nearby brush had begun to ignite. Crews acted quickly to bring the fire under control and conducted a thorough overhaul of the area to ensure all hot spots were fully extinguished and cooled. Firefighters remained on scene for just under an hour.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains undetermined but is not considered suspicious. As such, the Fire Marshal will not be conducting a formal investigation.
