The City of Yellowknife invites residents, local leaders, and Indigenous governments to register and join one of two full-day Modern Gold Mining Workshops. The Yellowknife session will be held on Saturday, November 22, at City Hall, and the Dettah session, delivered in partnership with Yellowknives Dene First Nation, will take place on Monday, November 24, at the Chief Drygeese Centre.
These interactive workshops provide a rare opportunity to engage directly with experts shaping mining in the North. Participants can ask questions, join discussions, explore gold ore samples, and gain firsthand insight into how modern mining practices protect land, water, and communities, influence local jobs and economic opportunities, and go hand in hand with Indigenous governments in governance and co-management.
Expert speakers include Mark Clark-Phillips, Darrell Beaulieu, Todd Burlingame, Joe Campbell, Mark Lewis, Diana Beck, and Brett Wheeler, among others, who will present throughout the day. Topics range from governance and permitting to mining technology, environmental safeguards, and economic impacts. Full speaker profiles are available on the City of Yellowknife website.
