The City of Yellowknife takes its responsibility as an emergency host community seriously and stands ready in times of need. We warmly welcome evacuees from Whatı̀ and Fort Providence, and we are working closely with community leadership, the Tłı̨chǫ Government, the Government of the Northwest Territories, and the Salvation Army to ensure both critical services and access to City amenities are available.
CRITICAL SERVICES
Evacuation Centre
- Location: Fieldhouse located at 45 Kam Lake Road
- Hours of operation: 8:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. daily
- Registration: Register at the Fieldhouse reception and pick up a wristband, which will grant you access to the Fieldhouse accommodations, meals at the Multiplex and the additional services listed below
- Accommodations: Cots are set up in the Fieldhouse for those in need
- WiFi: Connect to the “CityNet” network, no password required. Once connected, open your browser and accept the terms and conditions to get internet access
- Fieldhouse amenities: Free access to the showers, track and playground
- Parking: There is ample car parking at the Fieldhouse, however RVs and camping cannot be accommodated at this time
- Safety:
- No alcohol or drugs are permitted inside the building
- Abusive conduct including, sexual harassment, discriminatory remarks, and aggressive behavior will not be tolerated. Disrespectful patrons will be asked to leave the premises
- The designated smoking area is located between the Fieldhouse and Multiplex
Meals
- Location: Multiplex located at 41 Kam Lake Road (next to the Fieldhouse)
- Meal times:
- Breakfast from 8:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
- Lunch from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.
- Dinner from 5:00 pm-7:00 p.m.

- Transit:
- Present your wristband to the bus driver for free access to transit
- Check out the bus routes and schedule online
- Aquatic Centre:
- Present your wristband at the Aquatic Centre reception desk for free entry

- Check the pool schedule and announcements, as there is a grand opening event on Saturday which requires pre-registration and an altered schedule on Sunday
- Yellowknife Public Library:
- An extensive collection of books, DVDs, and audiobooks is available
- Computers and internet access are open for public use

- RV dump-and-fill station:
- Located on Kam Lake Road, near the intersection of Coronation Drive and Kam Lake Road
- 3-day visitor parking pass for the downtown area:
- Visit the Municipal Enforcement Division (MED) at City Hall, located at 4807 52 Street on the ground level, to pick up your 3-day parking pass
- Ensure you have your wristband when you pick up the pass
- MED is open from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Note that downtown parking is free on weekends

- Donations:
- The Salvation Army is coordinating all donation efforts to support evacuees at this time.
- Monetary donations are being coordinated through the Salvation Army and can be made online or in-person at Salvation Army Office located at 4701 Franklin Avenue, open from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- The Salvation Army is also seeking bath towel donations, which can be dropped off at the Salvation Army Thrift Store on 45th Street, open from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
