Adults

Short Story Contest

Writing is a wonderful way to express yourself, grow your creativity and imagination, and destress! Write us a short story in September and October. To be considered for a prize, all stories have to include a cabin in the woods (in any way).

Stories will be judged on writing skill, originality, and creativity.

Book a Librarian

Yellowknife Public Library offers a fast growing collection of online resources, including ebooks and audiobooks. We invite you to meet one-on-one with a librarian to learn how to download e-books, and Audiobooks from the library's collection onto your e-reader, mobile device, or laptop.

You can also learn how to use the library's other great digital resources including Rocket Languages and Freegal Music.

To book your session call the library at 920-5642. 

Monthly Book Club

Join us each month to read and discuss the book of the month with fellow local readers. Call or email the library to register and request a copy of the current book.

Colour Me Happy

Colouring is a great way to de-stress and have fun! Check out our selection of colouring sheets and supplies for adults & teens in the magazine area. Plus, you can submit your masterpiece for a chance to win a great prize!

Favourite Picture Books 2021/ 22 Board Game Contest

The City of Yellowknife invites families with children ages 3 to 8 years old to partake in this contest! The library staff have chosen picture books that they have enjoyed which came out in 21/22 for your reading pleasure. Fill in all the reading and activity squares on the game board before February 28, 2023 to enter the draw!

Contest runs from December 1  to February 28, 2023!

Please visit the front desk of the library or the children’s program section at www.yelllowkife.ca/ypl to obtain a  game board and a list of the titles to choose from!

Take Home Escape Room (ages 8-12)

Borrow one of our Nahanni themed take home escape rooms and test your wits. Record your time to complete the puzzles and let us know how long it took you, when you return the package for a chance to win a prize!

 

Tuesday Toddler Time  18-36 months 

Let your toddler explore the world through stories, rhymes, finger plays and songs that reinforce language development and learning. This lively and interactive program offers special one-on-one time for children and their caregivers. Admission is free.  Dayhomes are welcome.

Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

 Session 1: January 17 to February 28

Session 2: March 28 to June 20 

 

Wednesday Pre-School Story Time 3 - 5 years 

Story Time is a fun way to introduce your child to the joys of books and learning. Join us for stories, fun, and crafts in the library meeting room. We ask that a parent or caregiver attend with the child. Admission is free. Dayhomes are welcome.

Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Session 2: March 29 to June 21 

Thursday Baby Time 0 - 18 months 

 

Join us for a program that introduces you and your baby to the joy of music, rhyme, lap play, and more. This early childhood literacy program is for children aged 18 months and younger and their parent or caregiver. Siblings welcome. Admission is free.
