The Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD), which includes ambulance services, proudly provides fire, medical, and rescue services to the citizens and visitors of the City of Yellowknife. Established in 1943, we are committed to protecting the lives and property of our community through excellence in prevention, education, training, and emergency response.
YKFD staff work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help keep our community safe. With a commitment to continued education and training, the Fire Division responds to approximately 5000 calls per year (most being emergency medical responses), and has an average response time of less than 5 minutes!
The Yellowknife Fire Division consists of:
- One Fire Chief
- Two Deputy Chiefs
- 36 Full-time positions, including Four Captains and Four Lieutenants
Free FireSmart Home and Property Assessments
The City of Yellowknife Fire Division is offering free FireSmart home and property assessments for Yellowknife and Ndilo residents. This assessment will highlight areas of risk and provide specific recommendations of actions and upgrades residents can take to increase their property’s resilience to wildfire.
Local homeowners, business owners, and property management companies are invited to request a free assessment with a YKFD staff member by filling out this online form.
