In the event of a wildfire, the Environment and Climate Change Forest Management Division of the GNWT will relay information related to wildfire risk and behavior to the City. Based on this information, the City will post updates and public directives on this page. City updates will also be communicated via media releases, Emergency Email Notifications and the City’s Facebook page. During wildfire season, staying well informed will help you to make educated decisions and alleviate some uncertainty.

Fire ban status |
As of Friday, July 19, 2024 at 12 p.m., a fire ban has been issued by the Yellowknife Fire Division on open-air fires within the City of Yellowknife. This fire ban will stay in effect until further notice. Please practice fire safety at all times, burn responsibly, and ensure your fire is cold before leaving. All fires must be in an approved fire pit and require a burn permit. Regional and territorial fire bans will be communicated on NWT Fire's website and within the Park Advisories section of NWT Parks' website.
